OREGON – An American flag is being taken on a journey of more than 1,400 miles in 10 days to honor and raise money for disabled veterans.

The Patriot Tour started in Wisconsin one month ago, and now it is getting set to travel through the Beaver State.

Jeff Arkins is the second flag bearer here in Oregon, and he’s in charge of transferring the flag to the South Part of the state.

“The next event will be for us to take off in the morning from 9 a.m. from this location,” said Arkins. “We will be going to Medford at that point to DNS Harley Davidson.”

For Arkins, it’s just one of the ways he gets to honor our veterans, something that he says there isn’t enough of anymore.

“We pay our respects to veterans, either fallen veterans or current veterans, so it’s a wonderful thing that we can do,” said Arkins.

So while he still can, Arkins says he will continue to be grateful for all those who served.

“Without the veterans, we wouldn’t have the freedoms that we have,” said Arkins. “It’s just pure and simple, I mean people have given their time to serve, families have given up their loved ones when they are killed in the line of duty.”

For Arkins, this long journey with the flag is one way to say thank you. Riders from the Eugene/Springfield area will head out on Wednesday morning at 9 a.m. from Willamette Harley Davidson. From there, they’ll travel to Medford for the last and final stop here in Oregon.
