While the regional winery schedule is a couple weeks away from beginning to rev up, this weekend offers a couple of events for those looking to taste premium wines.
Here’s this weekend’s events short list:
- Friday night at the B&O Railroad Museum in downtown Baltimore, the Maryland Wineries Association will host its annual Winter Wine showcase, featuring the state’s best wines and wineries in an upscale setting. Representatives from the wineries will be pouring their wines and answering questions. The sparkling wine pre-reception will run from 6 to 7 p.m., with the general tasting to start afterward and continue until 9:30. More information and the chance to buy tickets can be found at this link.
- Spring Gate Vineyard in Lower Paxton Township, outside Harrisburg, is considered an automatic for a weekend event, and this one coming up is no exception. Winter Warmer Weekend will start at noon on Saturday and Sunday and will be celebrating the best parts of summer and the kickoff to Harley Davidson’s 115th anniversary with fruity libations, live entertainment, and food trucks. If you wear flowers in your hair, a lei or a Hawaiian shirt, it will offer a summery special of 20 percent off its select ciders. Click on the website or Facebook page for more details.
- The Pennsylvania Wine Society’s Wine Excellence XVI will put a formal end to the weekend with the annual two-plus-hour event at the Harrisburg Hilton, starting at 2 p.m. Representatives from each of the seven wineries that account for the top 10 will talk about the wine and the growing conditions as those attending taste each of the finalists. The top red and top white will be announced at the conclusion, with guests then having access to the honorable mention wines. All the details can be found here. Tickets are available.
