Winder man killed in motorcycle wreck in Flowery Branch

A Winder man was killed Sunday, Aug. 18, after a motorcycle wreck on McEver Road.

Chase Charles Mantel, 26, lost control of his Harley Davidson motorcycle around 6:50 p.m. while heading south near Oak Leaf Drive in Flowery Branch, according to the Hall County Sheriff’s Office. Investigators are trying to determine what caused Mantel to lose control.

As Mantel lost control, he and the motorcycle traveled into the northbound lane.

“He became separated from his motorcycle and was struck by a northbound Ford F650 truck,” Sheriff’s Office spokesman Derreck Booth said in a press release.

Mantel was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the truck tried to avoid the collision, but was not able to avoid Mantel.

No charges are expected at this time and the Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone who saw the accident to call Sgt. John Morgan at 678-618-1235.

The Sheriff’s Office Accident Investigation Unit, Georgia State Patrol Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team and Georgia Motor Carrier Compliance Division are investigating.
