LIMA —The Lima Harley-Davidson dealership at 3255 Fort Shawnee Industrial Drive held a Fright the Hunger Trunk or Treat event on Saturday.

Kids up to 17 could come in costume and trick or treat and compete for prizes.

The dealership wanted to do something for the kids and take donations for food pantries that help local veterans.

“We are actually partnering up with one of our charities that we work with closely, Rolling Thunder of Ohio Chapter 10, and we were looking for something fun to do with the community for a fall event. We decided an outside trunk or treat, would allow us to maintain safe distance and bring some kids out that normally wouldn’t come to a Harley dealership,” said Tara Joyce, general manager of Lima Harley-Davidson.

The partnership between the dealership and Rolling Thunder has been a good one.

“Rolling Thunder typically supports any veteran causes, and they’ve done a lot of events this year. I think they’ve raised over $10,000 with events here that they’ve just donated to local food pantries and the West Ohio Food Bank has been on the receiving end of some of those,” Joyce said.

The bikers organization is leased to work with the dealership.

“We work with them, they support us in our cause for the veterans because we’re a nonprofit veterans organization. And we just thought, with all the COVID and all the stuff, we wanted to do something fun for the kids. We need to forget about all this for a day and just have fun. So we’re outside. We’re dressed up. We’re having a great time,” said Cindy Leydig, secretary with Rolling Thunder, Chapter 10.

Steve Newman, membership officer with the motorcycle club is just happy to give back to the community and the kids.

“It’s for the enjoyment of the kids really and the veterans. All the proceeds go to the food bank to help out the veterans. They needed help just as much as everybody else does and we’ve been working with Tara for a couple years now and they have been great,” said Newman.

Shawnee Township policeofficers and firefighters were on hand at the Lima Harley-Davidson dealership Saturday for the Fright the Hunger Trunk or Treat.
