Thunder Beach revs up through weekend

PANAMA CITY BEACH — The 17th annual Thunder Beach Autumn Rally builds on the momentum that began mid-week and rides strong into the weekend.

Official Thunder Beach venues and vendor villages include Pier Park, Harley-Davidson of Panama City Beach and Frank Brown Park, featuring the Thunder Beach Saloon and the Thunder Beach Main Stage. Vendor villages open at 9 a.m. daily. The Free Thunder Beach Concert Series is 5-11 p.m. through Saturday. Official partner venues include Hammerhead Fred’s, Boardwalk Beach Resort and Sharky’s Beach Club. All official venues sell official Thunder Beach merchandise, which also will be available at Aaron Bessant Park Amphitheatre.

Official sponsors with live entertainment include Boneyard, Sandpiper Beacon Beach Resort and The Wicked Wheel.

Thunder Beach highlights include the bike shows: Best of Thunder Beach Custom Bike Show presented by “Southern Biker” Magazine at Pier Park; Baddest Bagger Contest, hosted and produced by “American Bagger” Magazine, at Pier Park; and LED Contest, sponsored and hosted by Custom Dynamics, at Frank Brown Park. Frank Brown Park also hosts the Tim Dyson FMX Freestyle Moto-X Stunt Shows — continuing at 11 a.m., 1 p.m., 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

The Miss Thunder Beach 2017 Autumn third preliminary is set for 7:15 p.m. Friday, culminating with the finale at 7:15 p.m. Saturday. Both events are at Frank Brown Park. No preliminaries take place for the Official Ms. Thunder Beach Contest for ladies 35-plus, which is 2-5 p.m. Saturday at Hammerhead Fred’s. Women who want to compete in Ms. Thunder Beach are not excluded from participating in Miss Thunder Beach, but it offers an additional option.

Thunder Beach Productions teamed up with GA Boyz Ink Works Tattoo Co. for tattoo contests with cash and prizes at the Thunder Beach Saloon from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday. Categories include best black and gray in women’s and men’s, best color in women’s and men’s, motorcycle related, arm/leg sleeve, full chest, full back, worst tattoo, people’s choice and best overall tattoo.

Hundreds of bikers and thousands of spectators gather each year for the Sgt. Kevin Kight Memorial Bike Parade, established in 2005 to honor local fallen police officer Sgt. Kevin Kight after he was killed in the line of duty. The parade is sponsored by the Panama City Beach Police and White Sands Riders to benefit Panama City Beach Cops and Kids Toy Run. Line-up is at 10 a.m. Saturday with kick-stands up at 11 a.m. at the southwest corner of R. Jackson Boulevard and Hutchison Boulevard.

Poker Runs continue through Saturday. Friday’s Poker Run, sponsored by the Combat Vets Association, begins with registration at noon at Sonny’s BBQ, first bike out at 12:30 p.m. and last bike out at 1 p.m. Other card stops include Moonspinner Condominiums, Dirty Dick’s Crab House, and  Barefoot on the Beach. The final stop with prizes is at 5 p.m. at Sandpiper Beacon Beach Resort.

Saturday’s Poker Run, sponsored by Red Knights MC13, begins with registration at noon at The Wicked Wheel Bar and Grill, followed by stops at Buffalo Wild Wings, Dunes of Panama and Barefoot Hide A Way Grill. Nick’s Slice of Brooklyn is the final stop with prizes at 5 p.m.
