MARSHALL — Three people were hurt in a crash involving a car and three motorcycles at the intersection of Minnesota Highway 23 and Minnesota Highway 19 Wednesday night, the Minnesota State Patrol said.
Two motorcyclists were transported to hospitals in Sioux Falls and Robbinsdale, while a third was taken to Avera Marshall Regional Medical Center.
The crash was reported at 8:44 p.m. The State Patrol said a 2014 Toyota sedan driven by Tamara Lee Harvell, 55, of Williamsburg, Virginia, was northbound on Highway 23 near the intersection when it crossed into the left turn lane and collided with two Harley Davidson motorcycles stopped at the traffic light. The State Patrol said alcohol was involved in the crash. The collision also caused a secondary crash, where one of the motorcycles collided with a third Harley Davidson also stopped at the light, the State Patrol said.
Harvell and two passengers in the Toyota, ages 10 and 4, were not injured, the State Patrol said. Motorcyclist Daniel Bruce Flynn, 60, of Riverview, Michigan, was transported to North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale with life-threatening injuries. Motorcyclist Wayne Thomas Patterson, 52, of Linwood, Michigan, was transported to Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls with life-threatening injuries. Motorcyclist John Michael McInchak, 57, of Riverview, Michigan, was transported to Avera Marshall Medical Center with non life-threatening injuries.
Law enforcement stopped traffic on all sides of the Highway 23/Highway 19 intersection Wednesday night, so a helicopter from North Memorial Air Care could make a landing on the highway.
In addition to the State Patrol, Marshall Police, the Marshall Fire Department, the Lyon County Sheriff’s Department and North Memorial Ambulance all responded at the scene of the crash.
