In the week we reported about a mint condition Harley-Davidson owned by Elvis Presley is on course to smash world records at auction to become the most valuable motorcycle on this earth, we have another two-wheel beauty – this time MV Agusta F3 800 – that has just fetched a tidy sum under hammer.
Donated by MV Agusta itself, this very special Italian machine has just been sold for a fairly sizeable $110,000 (just over £92,000 depending on which day you check the volatile markets) at a special auction hosted by UNICEF.
So, what makes this MV Agusta so special? Well, this particular model is a discreetly indiscreet version decked out in pearl white with baby blue flashes in line with UNICEF’s pantone, plus its logo.
Under the skin there is apparently nothing particularly special about this particular model – other than the already tidy chassis and tuneful 798cc engine kicking out 148HP – but somewhere in the world someone is getting it for around six times more than they otherwise would. Either way, it’s a great bike whatever the price tag.
The most valuable MV Agusta in the world
However, let’s not quibble on the bare facts because nobody pays $110,000 by accident and regardless of whether this particular bike has been touched by royalty or has a diamond encrusted dashboard, the money raised goes to an excellent cause and that alone is all the detail that matters.
Whilst there is no word on who the buyer was, we suspect if they plan to retain that livery and ride it on the road it isn’t going to remain a mystery for anyone who comes across its path.
“I am so happy that our special F3 800 for UNICEF Italia found such a generous buyer,” said Timur Sardarov, CEO of MV Agusta. “All our motorcycles are hand-crafted, and it takes an incredible amount of pride, passion, and experience to manufacture one. This special one is unique, and to know it will serve a unique cause makes every woman and man involved in its production even prouder.”
Incidentally, UNICEF’s UKL ambassadors include known bike enthusiasts David Beckham and Ewan McGregor, plus the likes of Tom Hiddleston, Rita Ora and Vanessa Redgreave. We’re secretly rooting for the latter, but we’re now just being silly…
