Aug. 27—St. Joe Harley-Davidson kicked off Saturday morning with a fun-filled event to help fundraise for Special Olympics Missouri.

Harley Sales Representative Stacey Spicer said the fundraiser event was open for families and friends to ride motorcycles around the city and enjoy food while listening to live music from the Band Hammertoe & the Fun Guys.

“We have Special Olympics Missouri here at a booth to promote their organization,” he said. “We’ve got raffles going all day to help them raise money. We want families to come and enjoy the weekend and also support organizations that serve their community.”

Special Olympics Missouri holds more than 350 trainings and competitions every year for individuals with intellectual disabilities to enjoy the power of sports just as everyone else does.

Development Director Melody Prawitz says to hold these events, they have to generate more than $7 million in revenue each year and a large proportion of that help comes from individuals in the community.

“We have so many local companies that support what we do and it really helps us reach our goal,” Prawitz said. “From motorcycle rides to our ‘Cop on a Rooftop’ fundraiser that law enforcement partners with us on. We’re very grateful.”
