Smithers' Harley-Davidson, Arctic Cat dealership prepares to close doors

After servicing the north as a licensed Harley-Davidson dealership for nearly 35 years, Harley-Davidson of Smithers announced Monday they are preparing to close their doors.

The business also operated as the Town’s Arctic Cat dealership for the past 27 years.

It will be closing this portion of its business as well.

“As of January 1, 2020 we will no longer be a licensed Harley-Davidson Dealership but will continue to conduct business as Wayside Service (1968) Ltd. until all product has been successfully moved,” the business said in a Facebook post Monday afternoon.

The business will continue to operate as a functioning Harley-Davidson dealership until Jan. 1, 2020.

At that point, they said they will continue to conduct business as Wayside Service Ltd. until all their product has been successfully moved.

In the post the dealership mentioned their service shop is for sale and that anyone interested should contact them.

The business is still a licensed Harley-Davidson and Arctic Cat dealership until the end of the year.

In the post the dealership adds it will still be storing motorcycles for the winter, a service it has offered locals in past years.

“We have been blessed to service the North just shy of 35 years. As most business owners know there are many ups and downs along the way, but we feel so lucky to be in an establishment where the customers and fellow staff members become friends and family.

“This decision has not been an easy one as we will be saying goodbye to our second home, but as all motor enthusiasts know – ‘it’s not the destination, it’s the journey’ and this is the next stage of the journey.”

The dealership plans to host a parking lot sale on Oct. 12 where they will be selling an assortment of motorcycle and snowmobile parts and accessories at heavily-reduced prices.

Anyone with a gift card is encouraged to use them in the next couple of months, as the dealership said they are still able to order items for customers until the end of December.

“We hope you can all stop by to take advantage of sales, have a coffee and to say goodbye,” the post finishes.
