Matt Smith Racing Pro
Stock Motorcycle rider Matt Smith is the No. 1 qualifier on Saturday at the AAA
Insurance NHRA Midwest Nationals. The reigning Pro Stock Motorcycle champion
went 6.801 at 198.93 mph at World Wide Technology Raceway at Gateway in Madison,
This is Smith’s fourth No. 1 qualifier of the season. In addition, it is his 35th of his career.
“Our confidence is really high,” Smith said. “We come into this race knowing this is one of our better tracks and we put our good motor in, and today we got it. Everything’s fine and we’ll be ready to go four rounds tomorrow. We need to win the race. We were 23 points out coming into this race, but our goal is to turn on four win lights tomorrow. Ever since I’ve been coming here I’ve been successful, and I just really like this place.”
Smith will face Jianna Salinas in the first-round of eliminations. The San Martin, California native went 7.160 at 186.23 mph.
Steve Johnson Racing Pro Stock Motorcycle rider Steve Johnson is the No. 2 qualifier. The Birmingham, Alabama native went 6.823 at 196.02 mph.
Johnson will face Andie Rawlings in the first-round of eliminations. The Kissimmee, Florida native went 7.140 at 185.05 mph.
Screamin’ Eagle Vance & Hines Harley-Davison Pro Stock Motorcycle rider Andrew Hines is the No. 3 qualifier. The Avon, Indiana native went 6.851 at 195.82 mph.
Hines will face Michael Ray Jr. in the first-round of eliminations. The New Braunfels, Texas native went 6.993 at 191.51 mph.
His Screamin’ Eagle Vance & Hines Harley-Davidson Pro Stock Motorcycle teammate Eddie Krawiec is the No. 4 qualifier. The Danville, Indiana native went 6.859 at 194.97 mph.
Krawiec will face Kelly Clontz in the first-round of eliminations. The Hughesville, Maryland native went 6.941 at 192.96 mph.
White Alligator Racing Pro Stock Motorcycle rider Jerry Savoie is the No. 5 qualifier. The Cut Off, Louisiana native went 6.869 at 196.13 mph.
Savoie will face Hector Arana Jr. in the first-round of eliminations. The East Northport, New York native went 6.939 at 194.94 mph.
