The North Carolina Troopers Association Caisson Unit is ready for its big ride.
Only, it won’t be the horses that go the distance this weekend.
The Caisson Unit holds its 2nd Annual Ride as One this Saturday, September 7.
The event features a motorcycle ride from Shelton’s Harley Davidson in Smithfield to the Wayne County Fairgrounds.
The North Carolina Trooper Association’s Caisson Unit provides horse-drawn wagon transport during the funerals of fallen law enforcement, emergency responders and dignitaries in five states.
Trooper Bennie Grady with the State Highway Patrol houses the horses for the Caisson Unit right here in Wayne County.
Grady says the support for the event and the Caisson Unit’s mission has been overwhelming, and he’s been planning to make this year’s event bigger and better.
The Ride as One starts with registration at Shelton’s Harley Davidson in Smithfield at 9 AM on Saturday.
The motorcycles take off at 11 AM and make their way to the Wayne County Fairgrounds where there will be a family-friendly event featuring food, live music, a car and bike show, and more.
The fairgrounds open at 11 AM.
There will even be a raffle drawing for a new Harley Davidson Street Glide Special and a free dune buggy giveaway.
The public can even meet the Caisson Unit horses, which will be on-site.
