Flat track racing may still be in its infancy in the Philippines, but in the US, it’s a very popular and competitive sport. There’s a MotoGP-like manufacturer battle going on in the American Flat Track series with brands like Harley-Davidson, Honda, and Indian in the production-based twins class.
Royal Enfield has already been competing in this series in the Singles (single-cylinder) class with Himalayans modified for flat track use, used by two teams.
The race-spec Royal Enfield Twins FT is a product of the Moto Anatomy team, Harris Performance, Royal Enfield, and S&S Cycle. The bike is ridden by pro racer, Johnny Lewis.
Though it was just RE’s first time competing in the class, it managed to take third place in the semi-finals, and finish sixth in the main event.
While it may still be some years before we see a competitive flat track racing scene develop locally, there’s certainly some interest in the sport. Perhaps some models inspired by the race bikes could help improve the sport’s popularity.
Indian is already offering the flat track-inspired FTR 1200 locally. A more affordable Royal Enfield flat tracker could certainly help get the word out. Here’s hoping we get a street legal version of the awesome-looking bike.
