Road to X Games: Boise Qualifier – Sabre Norris, Tristan Rennie and Mykel Larrin Secure Invites ...

Returning to Boise, Idaho for the second edition of the Road to X Games: Boise Qualifier, the world’s top skateboard, BMX and Harley-Davidson Hooligan athletes competed to secure their invitations to Minneapolis. In addition to the three events at Rhodes Skate Park, the qualifier expanded this year’s event to include Harley-Davidson Hooligan Racing at CenturyLink Arena. Over 12,000 fans witnessed six Men’s Skateboard and BMX athletes, four Women’s Skateboarders and 48 Harley-Davidson Hooligan racers punch their tickets to Minneapolis.

Opening the event with an exciting indoor Harley-Davidson Hooligan race, over 85 riders competed for their chance to race at X Games Minneapolis. Hooligan racing provides an opportunity for interested amateur riders to compete in Flat Track, with invited riders from across the country spanning all ability levels. The top four from each heat qualified for X Games Minneapolis, with 48 earning their spots. Brad Spencer battled through many rounds to take home the top spot.

Saturday’s finals kicked off with Women’s Skateboard Park where 12 skaters competed for four qualifying spots to X Games Minneapolis. Australian Sabre Norris took control of the competition with her second run, scoring a 90.66. An X Games rookie, the 13-year old is already in the skateboard history books as the 3rd woman to land a 540, doing so at just 9 years old. Coming off a Sao Paolo Vans Park Series win, Japanese skater Sakura Yosozumi took second place with an 86.33. Brazilian Yndiara Asp and Minneapolis native Nicole Hause rounded out the top four who qualified for X Games Minneapolis.

Coming off a third place finish at the Vans Park Series Sao Paulo earlier this month, Tristan Rennie’s aggressive style earned him the top score of the Men’s Skateboard Park contest. Maintaining a lead throughout the contest, Rennie threw down a backside 540 nosegrab to earn his highest score on his third run with an 85.33.  Known for competing in Big Air at X Games events, Trey Wood earned a second place finish with an 83.00 and the extremely versatile Clay Kreiner finished third with an 82.00. Heimana Reynolds, Chris Russell and X Games rookie Oskar Rozenberg also qualified for invites to Minneapolis.

In the final competition of the day, Mykel Larrin showed that he’s not only a threat in Vert and Big Air with an 88.33 in his second run that held off a field of the world’s top BMX Park stars. Larrin’s amplitude was enough to edge out X Games rookie Jose Torres by less than a point for the top qualifying spot. Brandon Loupos finished a close third, ahead of X Games Minneapolis 2017 gold medalist Nick Bruce. Dennis Enarson and Colton Walker took the final spots to Minneapolis.
