FOND DU LAC – In 2007, Lori Thiel and Pete Johnson realized their entrepreneurial dream of buying a Harley-Davidson dealership. Since then, it’s been 10 years and a wild ride to where they are today.
What’s the key?
“We are a community-based business that believes in taking care of people,” says Thiel. Since the recession struck in 2008, their industry has seen continual change. To stay relevant in the economic climate, Open Road Harley-Davidson has adapted and remained agile.
“The recession was eye-opening in terms of how outside variables can control the market,” said Thiel. “So we said, ‘Let’s do something about it!’ We’ve become a quality-driven, customer-centric business that people trust and enjoy.”
From reaching out to folks who are new to the brand, to encouraging women to learn to ride, the dealership focuses on customer experience. By working tirelessly against headwinds, this purposeful, community-based business has come alive. As a result, Open Road Harley-Davidson was awarded the Circle of Excellence Bar & Shield Award in 2013, and was named among the Powersports Top 100 Dealers in 2015.
Open Road has become an area hub for those who want to taste the unique Harley-Davidson experience. With rides, parties, and events throughout the year, the dealership really does have something for everyone…even those who don’t ride. Newcomers are sure to receive a warm welcome: staff and members of the riding community are more than willing to answer questions and encourage participation.
Open Road Harley-Davidson will be celebrating all year, starting with a “Decade Party” in February. The dealership will be announcing special anniversary promotions on the 10th of every month, showcasing many 10th anniversary commemorative items. Many Harley-Davidson riders enjoy collecting unique items from dealerships both near and far, so Open Road will be issuing 10th anniversary Open Road Harley-Davidson t-shirt designs, poker chips and more.
Open Road Harley Davidson is located at 24 S. Rolling Meadows Drive, in Fond du Lac. For more information, call 920-921-2344 or visit openroadhd.com.
