Rhonda Morgan of the Miss Amazing Pageant in Arkansas invites the community to join the first ever Amazing Poker Run on Oct. 21 in Conway.
Morgan, who is from California, said her special needs daughter has had the opportunity to compete in the pageant before and she had a lot of fun.
When Morgan moved to the area, she said, she wanted to help bring the organization that had made such a huge impact on her daughter to Arkansas for other children to be a part of something that they might not have a chance to do otherwise.
Giving that opportunity to other special needs children is why she said she helped organize a poker run in California for Special Olympics before, and in Conway for the first time Saturday.
Morgan said the event starts at 8 a.m. Saturday at the Toad Suck Harley Davidson.
Riders — cars are welcome as well — will pull a card and first bikes will leave at 9 a.m.
Travelers’s first stop will be at the El Paso Exxon at 3097 AR Hwy-5, second stop at Muse Country Store AR Hwy-5 in Heber Springs and their third stop at the Drasco Trading Post at 6949 Heber Springs Road North.
The group’s final stop — last bike in by 5 p.m. — will be back at the Toad Suck Harley Davidson store for their fifth and final card pull.
The top three hands will get a payout with the rest of the proceeds going toward the pageant.
“Rain or shine, we’re going to do it,” Morgan said. “It’s just a fun way to raise money for this [cause].”
Entry fee is $ 25 per hand.
“We’re just trying to do anything we can to get the [Miss Amazing Pageant] out there as much as possible,” Morgan said.
She said she is expecting anywhere between 60 to 80 riders but hopes for more than 100.
“Hopefully it’s big,” Morgan said.
She said while this is the first year for the event, she hopes they are able to do it every year.
Morgan said if someone wants to ride in the poker run, they can contact her through Facebook.
