Multiple Motorcycle Crashes Leave Two Seriously Injured On Saturday

MILLER COUNTY, Mo. — Two motorcyclists were seriously injured, and one of them was airlifted, in collisions on Saturday afternoon, the biggest day of Bikefest at Lake of the Ozarks.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 47-year-old Charles Pettipiece, of Independence, Mo., was driving north on Highway 87 on Saturday afternoon when he crashed on a curve. His 2003 Harley Davidson was totaled, and Pettipiece was flown by Staff for Life helicopter to University Hospital with serious injuries.

Shortly after that crash, a man was seriously injured in a crash on the Bagnell Dam Strip. According to the Patrol, 57-year-old Darrel Pettay, of Peculiar, Mo., was driving a 2011 Electro Glide Harley Davidson and crashed into the back of a 2015 Street Glide Harley Davidson driven by 51-year-old Emerson Lemka, of Latour, Mo., as Lemka was trying to make a left-hand turn. Pettay was seriously injured and taken to Lake Regional Hospital for treatment.
