OLD IRONSIDES MUD CHALLENGE >> The fifth annual event will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 13 at the Air Assault Obstacle Course. The 4-mile course will feature more than 16 obstacles. The race is open to youths and adults. However, participants who are younger than 18 must compete with a parent or guardian.
Early sign-ups are being accepted at Soto, Milam and Stout physical fitness centers and online at raceroster.com.
Early registration costs $ 20 for active duty and those who are 14 and younger, $ 25 for Fort Bliss ID cardholders and $ 35 for all others. Early sign-ups end May 10. There will be an additional $ 10 fee for race-day sign-ups. Information: 744-5785.
MOTORCYCLE RUN >> The German Motorcycle Club will have its 30th anniversary bike run April 30. Registration is from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on the day of the event at Barnett Harley-Davidson, 8272 Gateway East. The ride starts at Barnett and finishes at Handlebars, 1731 N. Lee Trevino. The cost is $ 10 per rider or $ 15 per couple. Proceeds will benefit the Opportunity Center for the Homeless.
FITNESS THROWDOWN AND OUTDOOR EXPO >> The Soto Physical Fitness Center will host the two events from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.
The Fitness Throwdown is open to active duty, reservists, retirees, spouses, dependents and Department of Defense civilians. Registration costs $ 15 and can be done at Soto or Stout physical fitness centers. On the day of the event, sign-ups will be accepted at Soto only.
The competition will be separated by male and female athletes according to age groups. It will consist of five events testing strength, endurance and speed.
The Outdoor Expo will be held at the same time with local vendors and experts sharing knowledge about hiking trails and safe hiking practices in the desert. The free expo is open to anyone. Information: 744-5788.
SPRING FLING CARNIVALS >> The El Paso chapter of the 82nd Airborne Division Association will have two Spring Fling Carnivals from Friday through April 30 to raise money for its scholarship fund.
The simultaneous carnivals will be held on the Cowtown Boots property, 11451 Gateway West, and at the Outlet Shoppes at El Paso, 7051 S. Desert Blvd.
Hours are: 5 to 11 p.m. Monday through Thursday; 5 p.m. to midnight on Friday; 1 p.m. to midnight on Saturday; and 1 to 11 p.m. on Sunday. Both locations will be offering discounts.

UNDERWOOD SPECIALS >> Golfers can book a new golf tournament through April for anytime in 2017 and receive a discount. BOATING EDUCATION CLASS >> The course will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 29 and again on May 6 at the Soldier Activity Center. This free one-day course is presented by New Mexico State Parks marine enforcement officers. The class is designed for anyone who wants to operate a power boat. It is nationally accredited and meets the requirements of nearly every state.

JUST BECAUSE DAY >> A free family event is scheduled from noon to 4 p.m. May 13 at the Old Fort Bliss Replica. It is open to all Department of Defense ID cardholders and their guests. The event will include “extreme” inflatables, games, a DJ, face painting and color explosions every hour.
