Motorcyclist dies after wreck south of Loudonville

LOUDONVILLE – A 54-year-old man riding his motorcycle died Friday evening after losing control on Ohio 3 just south of Loundonville.

Robert C. Bruce Jr., of Centerburg, was riding his 2008 Harley Davidson Roadking north toward Loudonville when he slowed for traffic, lost control, traveled left of center and hit an approaching car head-on, according to a report from the Ashland Post of the Ohio Highway Patrol.

The vehicle Bruce struck was a 2001 Plymouth Neon driven by Jacob R. Wittel, 16, of Loudonville.

Troopers received the call for the crash about 6:03 p.m. Friday. The incident took place near Township Road 739, close to Pine Run creek, less than a mile south of Mohican State Park.

The patrol’s report states Bruce was wearing his helmet, but succumbed to his injuries at the scene of the crash. Wittel sustained minor injuries and was treated on scene by Loudonville Fire and Rescue.

The Ashland County Sheriff’s Office and rangers from the Department of Natural Recourses also assisted on scene. Traffic was detoured around the scene for about an hour while the scene was cleared.

The crash remains under investigation.
