BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – Veterans live to serve, and Harley owners live to ride. Now, those two passions intersect at a local motorcycle shop.
Bakersfield Harley Davidson has become a local pioneer in honoring veterans in a unique way.
The dealership dedicated a parking spot to Purple Heart veterans, making Bakersfield Harley Davidson the first business in the city to do so.
“Nobody sets out to win a Purple Heart. To be awarded a Purple Heart, and when they come home, they’ve done that for you and I. They’ve stood in harm’s way for you and I,” Bakersfield Harley Davidson manager Ben Patten said.
“The least we can do is give them a parking place.”
Patten proposed the idea to upper management after one of his employees drew inspiration from an out-of-state Harley dealer and he feels this small step will go a long way in recognizing those who’ve been wounded or killed while serving in the U.S. military.
