Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher identified the victim as 53-year-old Ruth Hunt Payne of Lexington, who was pronounced dead at the scene from her injuries. The driver, who was not identified, was transported to an area hospital for treatment; the condition of that individual was unknown Saturday night, Fisher said.

The crash occurred around 11:35 a.m. Saturday on U.S.  378 near Walter Rawl Road, Collins said.

The couple’s 2019 Harley Davidson was traveling westbound on U.S. 378 when a deer bounded into the highway and struck the motorcycle, according to Collins.

Both the motorcycle driver and Payne were wearing helmets at the time of the crash, according to both Collins and Fisher.
