Man Tries to Light Gas Tank on Fire Outside Pennsylvania Harley Dealership

A man did thousands of dollars in damage after lighting a gas tank on fire outside a motorcycle dealership, according to a report on Pittsburgh’s WPXI News website.

“It was extremely cold yet he was out here for about an hour and 20 minutes attempting to get into many things,” said Z&M Harley-Davidson general manager Dax Dillman.

Z&M Harley-Davidson in Greensburg has been in business for nearly 50 years, but the staff hadn’t seen anything like what the dealership’s cameras captured in the dead of night. When the dealership’s technicians showed up to work last Wednesday morning, they noticed a few things damaged and out of place. Then they played back the surveillance video and were shocked by what they saw.

Dillman said that the man used some sort of aerosol can was used in an attempt to “essentially blow up a fuel tank.”

The dealership believes the man was trying to siphon the gas from the tank but it didn’t work. It will cost the business thousands of dollars to repair.

We have continued to report on the uptick in crime that has afflicted many powersports dealers in the past year. Installing cameras and other security equipment is a good step toward discouraging would-be thieves.
