Man strikes deer; gets hit by car and dies in Wythe County

WYTHE COUNTY, Va. (WDBJ7) — Virginia State Police are investigating a crash that left one man dead in Wythe County.

Police say shortly after 11:30 p.m. Saturday night, a 2006 Harley Davidson FXD motorcycle was traveling southbound on Interstate 77 at the 45-mile marker when the driver struck a deer, causing the driver to be ejected from the motorcycle onto the roadway.

The driver — Leonard R. Scarberry, 39, of Willis, Va. — was subsequently struck by a 2014 Dodge Ram 1500 and died at the scene.

No charges are expected in this incident.
