Rhinelander Public Works Director alleges retaliation by mayor, administrator as employees questioned by mayor’s investigators
Submitted: 04/02/2019

RHINELANDER – Four Rhinelander city employees upset with City Administrator Daniel Guild met with outside investigators last week, according to several sources.

A fifth, Public Works Director Tim Kingman, refused to participate, saying city leadership has made no attempt to resolve the “atmosphere of intimidation and the fear of retribution” he and the other employees wrote about in a March letter.

Mayor Chris Frederickson opened the investigation into the “no confidence” letter against Guild. That letter was signed by Kingman, City Clerk Val Foley, Deputy Clerk Mary Stoll, Utility Billing Clerk Beth Mannikko, and Guild’s assistant, Stephanie Rajnicek. In addressing the City Council, Kingman accused Guild of creating a hostile work environment and carrying out political hit jobs.

Kwik Trip still interested in Oneida Co. highway department site

RHINELANDER – Five years ago, Oneida Co. turned down a $2.3 million offer from Kwik Trip to build a store where the existing highway department is.

But the convenience store is still interested in coming to the intersection of Highways 8 and 47 in Rhinelander, the county’s economic development director reported on Tuesday.

A county committee is studying whether to move the highway shop to the former Petco land on Air Park Road. It could then sell the shop property to Kwik Trip or another buyer.

The Petco property has an assessed value of more than $4 million. The company paid more than $91,000 in taxes last year.

“If you don’t vote, then you lose the right to criticize the outcome,” said Karen Sailer, an Eagle River voter.
