Horace “Bud” Allen Jr., who helped get many projects and businesses started in Crystal River, died early Wednesday morning.

The Strickland Funeral Home & Crematory, which confirmed his death on Thursday, will be handling funeral arrangements.

Steve Lamb, owner of the Crystal Harley-Davidson dealership, said Allen and his company, Allen Site Development off of U.S. 19, cleared the property in 1983 of where Lamb built his first Chevy dealership.

“That’s how far back Bud and I go,” Lamb said, adding Allen continued to do site work for all his dealerships. “Bud was a dear friend, we called him ‘Uncle Bud.’”

Allen continued doing site work for Lamb up until his death, when he was assisting with the development of Lamb’s newest Harley dealership off of U.S. 19, Lamb said.
