Motorcycle enthusiasts or individuals determined to make a difference in the life of a child fighting cancer, are encouraged to attend Libby’s Light Shines pediatric cancer benefit Saturday. The day-long event will kick off at the Harley Davidson of Dothan with registration at 9 a.m.

Libby’s Light Shines is a non-profit organization established in the honor of Libby Clair Rushing, who lost her fight to childhood cancer in December 2016, at the age of 7.

“This fundraising event is not only being held to honor Libby, but it is also being held for the community to come together and help other children who are fighting the battle with cancer,” said Novia Brackin, event spokesperson.

“Funds raised benefiting Libby’s Light Shines help families who have a child battling cancer. The funds are used to assist with treatment and traveling expenses.”

Following registration, special guest Mountain Man from Duck Dynasty, Tim Guraedy, will be in attendance at 10 a.m.

“We will also have inflatables for the children, the Ice Cream Man, and so much more,” Brackin said. “It really is just going to be a day filled with entertainment and the community coming together to make a difference.”

At 4:30 p.m. the entertainment will move to Cowboys on U.S. Highway 231, which is also a family oriented event.

“Several events are scheduled for the second part of benefit,” Brackin said. “Once everyone has arrived at Cowboys we will have several competitions set up for motorcycle owners to enjoy. We will have a bike show as well as sound and rider competitions. This is a great way for motorcycle owners to display their ride while helping the children and their families.”

Fees and rules will be displayed Saturday at Cowboys. Trophies and cash prices will be awarded.

Following the competition all motorcycle owners are urged to participate in Libby’s benefit ride.

“There is a $ 20 dollar fee per motorcycle and an additional $ 5 fee for passengers,” Brackin said. “All funds raised throughout this day-long event will go to Libby’s Light Shines.”

Individuals can purchase tickets for a chance to win a 2017 Iron 883 Custom motorcycle during the day-long event. The motorcycle will also have a customer paint job and accessories provided by Area 51 Customers. The winner of the motorcycle will be announced after the ride.

“We ask anyone who has a passion for motorcycles or anyone just wanting to enjoy a family oriented event, to participate,” Brackin said. “This event is very important to me, it helps us honor and always remember just how special Libby truly was, plus we are helping other children who are fighting the same battle. In today’s times everyone takes so much for granted including the day we have been given. The only thing these children are asking for is just to have another day. These children and their family need support, let’s support them during this event.”
