    Sub $50 Chaps., April 7, 2014

I live in Denver, and the local selection of riding gear is abysmal. (Or maybe I just haven’t had much luck anywhere on the North side, but I’ve tried 3 dealerships and Renegade.) I decided to risk some of the crummy reviews and buy these since they are a fraction of the price I can find around here and I haven’t been very impressed with the Chaps I could find for $150 – $200.

I’m glad I took the chance. I’d like to address some of the negative reviews. 1) They don’t smell bad. I don’t smell them at all and I do keep them hanging in the living room. 2) They DO have YKK zippers. Large ones. No, they aren’t steel, but aluminum. 3)They are long enough for a 34 inch inseam. I expected the high-water look and didn’t get it.

The one weakness I’ve observed is the belt buckle. I’m pretty certain that will fail. When it does, I’ll stitch a chunk of an old belt on there and replace the existing belt and buckle.

I’ve ridden about 150 miles over four rides with them. I’m very happy. I’m sure someone out there is selling nicely made chaps that don’t say Harley on them and selling them in Denver. But I’m also sure they will cost $250 or $350. I’m riding a Goldwing so even if I was willing to pay to advertise I wouldn’t have picked Harley.

The picture is small, so I was relieved when I got them and could see that I wouldn’t be looking like a leather-man cowboy in these. They aren’t too overstated.

    Good leather, but…, November 9, 2011

I was wary about these because of the low price, but the reviews here and on on Jafrum’s website persuaded me. When they arrived, my wariness increased. While the leather was high quality, and felt like the $200 pair I outgrew, the zippers and snaps were not. 50 miles into a 600 mile trip, the zipper on the right leg broke. I don’t think it would have been too expensive to use good steel YKK zippers, instead of cheap aluminum. Not happy.

I gave two stars, because the leather is nice, but the zipper exploding on the highway is something of a deal breaker. Also, if you decide the zipper thing is worth the risk, use the size chart. It’s accurate.

According to their measurements, I ordered XL thinking that they would probably be too big. I was fairly disgusted to find out they fit perfectly. Didn’t realize I’d gotten that fat, but their sizing was right on. These are great chaps, especially for the price. I do wish they had another pocket or easy accessibility to my pants pockets, but that can be added later. One caveat (and the reason they didn’t get 5 starts) is the buckle won’t stay buckled. You may have to either to bend it a bit or just replace it, which is what I’m doing. For those extras, you’d probably pay 2 to 3 times the price. All in all a great buy.

Good leather stuff, recently I bought my first leather cowboy chaps from LEATHER BABA Brand leatherbaba.com/leather-chaps-for-sale, and that was my fantastic experience with them, their product quality was really good.
