A 55-year-old Kennewick man was killed late Monday morning when he slid his Harley Davidson motorcycle into the trailer of a potato truck then was hit by a semi north of Warden in Grant County.
The Grant County Sheriff’s Office said James Boles was riding his 1999 Harley southbound on Road U Southeast about 11:20 a.m. when he came upon the slow-moving potato truck and trailer.
He laid down his motorcycle and struck the left rear wheel of the trailer, ejecting him from the motorcycle and into the path of a 2007 Freightliner, the sheriff’s office said.
The driver of the potato truck, Oscar Cisneros, 38, of Mexico was unaware of the accident and continued on but returned to the scene when notified.
The sheriff’s office said he was cooperative with deputies upon his return.
The sheriff’s office said excessive speed of the motorcycle contributed to the accident, which happened about a mile and a half from Interstate 90.
