This is a step by step instructional video on how to change the engine oil & filter on a Harley Davidson Softail. While I’m working on a 2013 Softail Deluxe, this video applies to pretty much all Softail years & models since the oil drain plug & filter locations are in the same place.

I love anything to do with Harley Davidson and have two beautiful children and a beautiful partner. In my spare time i like building websites and love anything to do with the internet.

  1. You make it look so easy, i use to tie my bike to stand straight up, lol – now ill do it on side and the drip scoopie thing pretty cool, i use to use a piece of foil.. well done

  2. Great video. Voice is clear and easy to listen to. They should show this to some Harley mechanics. They tighten my oil filter so hard I couldn’t believe how hard it was to just break the seal. Excellent job.

  3. I use Red Line in all my Harleys. Found they run cooler. I have a 2013 FLSTC and I add 2 1/2 quarts then get it to operating temp and check it. Mine takes just under 2 3/4 quarts to top it off. After a couple days of riding it I check it again. It's funny you ask 10 people what oil they use and you get at least 3 different answers. The best way to get a good drain is to invest in wheel chalks. Keeps the bike upright. Good video though

  4. No way in hell I'd put 10 thousand miles on any oil on any vehicle.amsoil mite be good bit not the best.the best oil is clean fresh oil.

  5. I don't want to change the rubber o ring on the oil drain plug. I don't want to put oil in the new filter so it spills back out putting it on. Why can't I just pull the coil wire and crank it to circulate the oil? Lastly, how many quarts of oil do I need for the change?, On a 2002 Softail standard it's fuel injection. this stuff is nearly 10 dollars a quart and the filter is 10. Changing oil myself and costing well over 50 dollars seems extreme.

  6. I've been servicing my own motorcycles since 1971 and on Harley's since 1990. We now own 2012 and 2013 Softail Deluxes. It took me until this night when I viewed your video to have the light go on in the old noggin and learn a fool proof method of using the filter wrench to achieve the half turn of the new oil filter! Till now I'd been using masking tape, sharpie's , etc and getting results, but nothing easier than your method! Also noticed that you righted the motorcycle up to get the best drainage. Good on ya kiddo. I just start out with the bike on a center stand, but if you don't have one, your method works just as well. A fine job all around young lady.

  7. Thanks so much for this video…you saved me a ton of money and time because now I can do this job myself instead of having to depend on the dealership.

  8. pussycat….we NEVER tightin the oil filter, with a wrench!!!!!!!!!!!
we tightin it till we feel the seal, then 1/2 a turn!!! ok!!!

  9. Great video Lady Rides. I am just now jumping into changing the oil on my '07 Fatboy for the first time on my own. Your video makes it nice and easy to understand. Per Jerry Hubbards comments, I will be using Amsoil however.

  10. I still prefer me doing the work and the gal doing the work to look good, shut up,and get on the back. also make me a sandwich, please. oh yeah here is the house payment for us

  11. She did do a good job on draining and changing the oil and filter.  Looks like she works for a HD dealer.  I visit several of them randomly and own a softail myself
