PONTOON BEACH — A St. Louis man has died after his motorcycle collided with a tractor-trailer in Pontoon Beach early Tuesday.

The deceased man is George M. E. Beck II, 44, according to Madison County Coroner Steve Nonn.

According to Nonn, it is believed Beck was traveling south on Illinois 111 around 1:32 a.m. Tuesday when the Harley Davidson Heritage Softail motorcycle he was operating approached the intersection with East Chain of Rocks Road. A 2014 International tractor-trailer was making a left hand turn East Chain of Rocks Road onto northbound Illinois 111, Nonn said, and the two collided. Nonn did not release the name of the truck driver.

Beck was pronounced dead at the scene by Madison County Coroner’s Investigator Diondra N. Horner. According to Nonn, Beck died as a result of multi-system trauma, but was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

The accident remains under investigation by the Pontoon Beach Police Department with assistance from the Crash Reconstruction Unit of the Illinois State Police. Nonn said routine toxicology testing for the presence of alcohol and drugs will be performed.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by Irwin Chapel in Granite City.
