Harley-Davidson Workers State that the Plant Closure Is Like A Bad Dream

Harley-Davidson, an American motorcycle manufacturer, is about to close its Kansas City plant. The company’s workers from the U.S. are losing their balance on this planned closure news. It is proclaimed that the company is expected to gather huge financial benefits from the federal corporate tax cut.

The motorcycle manufacturer in Milwaukee is benefited from the tax cuts enacted on January 1, 2018. After that in late January, Harley-Davidson announced 350 jobs cuts across the company. Then On February 5, 2018, it sanctioned a half-cent dividend raise and buyback of up to 15 Million shares.

The company proclaimed that its U.S. sales were being dropped down in recent years. As a result, it was forced to cut its excess factory capacity. Further, the company admitted that there was no other way to address this pressure issue created by the excess capacity in the U.S. market. However, the company denies any correlations in between the dividend increase & stock buyback and the tax savings.

On the other hand, the company workers are very disappointed with the company decision. Tim Primeaux, who worked as a welder in the company, asserted in an NBC News interview that the workers did everything Harley-Davidson asked them to do.

Further, he explained that all the workers were in a state of “shock and awe” after hearing the announcement in January that Harley-Davidson is cutting down 800 jobs. It was the result of closing its Kansas City plant by fall of 2019.

Recently, Harley-Davidson offered Riding Academy New Rider Course to eligible spouses of the U.S. Military personnel for just $99. The announcement was done on Friday in recognition of Military Spouse Appreciation Day. It also included first responders such as law enforcement, fire, and EMS. Generally, the final cost of the course is more than $300.
