The Indian bike segment has grown leaps and bounds over the years with major two-wheeler manufacturers setting up dealerships and facilities in the country. Harley Davisdon is one of the early entrants in the premium bike segment and it enjoys immense popularity in the Indian market. While the company already offers a wide range of bikes in India, the American giant is now planning to enter the used bike business. Confirming to media about the company’s intent to tap the used bike business, Peter Mackenzie said that the company is looking at expanding its reach to people who can’t afford the Harley Davidson bikes, yet they long to own one. He further said that buying a used Harley Davidson bike directly from the authorized dealership will give customers assurance and confidence about the product.
It has already started the pilot program in some of its dealerships and has been receiving positive response from the customers that has encouraged it to foray into the used bike business in the coming months. While company plans to display the used bikes alongside newer bikes at its current dealerships, it may set up separate dealerships for the used bikes in India at a later stage.
As a part of its expansion plan, Harley Davidson India recently inaugurated its 27th dealership in Chennai, and is looking at expanding it further to 30 by the end of this year. Besides used bikes, the company is also focusing on apparels.
As per company’s claims, apparels can play a vital role in its growth in the country. Aimed at the youngsters, the American based bike manufacturer has already started three dedicated stores for apparels in different malls that have received good response from the customers and it might open more apparel based stores across cities.
