Harley-Davidson Sportster Rebuild Time Lapse | Redline Rebuild #6

After three months, 20,000 photos, and more than our share of hurdles (especially finding parts), we’ve completed another Redline Rebuild time-lapse video. This time around, Hagerty’s Davin Reckow tackles a two-wheel project, a bit of a Frankenstein bike with the heart of a 1957 Harley-Davidson XL Sportster. No seriously, its engine is an ironhead V-twin from a first-year Sportster. So strap on your helmet because we’re about to speed things up a bit.

Part 2 coming soon…

Damn, if these videos don't spice your appetite for maintenance and restoration, probably nothing will. Thanks for the upload!

While pulling the covers off I was thinking "Wow, everythings a lot cleaner than I imagined! Why are they rebuilding this?" and then you pulled the cylinder off the piston and I was speechless. How could that thing even run long enough to smack the valve that many times?

First of all, amazing video. Second of all, may I ask you something? When you do such a rebuild does the piece basically begin its life anew? Like it was almost never used?

How good is a rebuilt engine? I know this depends on who is doing the rebuilding and what new parts are used. But in this case, how many more miles will you get before another rebuild or new engine.
