BRICK – A motorcyclist on a 2000 Harley Davidson Dyna Glide was injured Thursday night in a crash on Route 88 in the intersection of Jack Martin Boulevard.
Christos Michael, 57, of Point Pleasant, suffered head and chest injuries in the 5:42 p.m. accident, said Patrolman Keith Donnelly, a traffic safety officer with the Brick Township Police Department.
Michael was traveling west on Route 88 at the time of the crash. As he approached Jack Martin Boulevard, the traffic light at the intersection cycled from green to yellow, Donnelly said.
What’s not entirely clear is what happened next. As Michael entered the intersection, the motorcycle was no longer upright. The bike slid into the intersection where it impacted with a 2015 Lexus RX3 a sport-utility vehicle.
At the time of the crash, the SUV was in the process of making a left turn from the opposite direction of Route 88 onto Jack Martin Boulevard, Donnelly said.
Burke Blackman, 75, of Brick, the driver of the RX3, and his passenger Marie McGinty, 74, of Brick, were not injured in the crash, Donnelly said.
Based on initial reports from the scene and the evidence collected so far, Donnelly said it appeared that the motorcycle was down and sliding through the intersection prior to its impact with the SUV.

Michael was transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune by the Brick Township Police Department’s EMS unit, along with MONOC paramedics.
As of Thursday night, his injuries did not appear to be life threatening, Donnelly said.
The police department’s Traffic Safety Unit responded to the scene to investigate the crash.
Traffic on Route 88 was detoured around the scene for about 90 minutes during the investigation.
The investigation continues and is being conducted by Donnelly and Patrolman Jay Lampiasi.
Anyone who may have witnessed the crash or who has information pertaining to it is asked to contact Lampiasi at 732-262-1141.
