This Thursday the Williston Herald will be holding its first ever event and it’s an awards banquet for “Best of the Bakken.” In the past we had published a special edition around this time of the year announcing the winners of our annual “Readers’ Choice” awards. As the new publisher of the Williston Herald, I knew we could do better and I just did not like the name “Readers’ Choice” it sounds too boring —like “Screenwriters Guild” or something along those lines. So I changed it to “Best of the Bakken,” because it fits with Williston and the surrounding area.
In previous years we did the voting via paper ballot in the newspaper, but this year we put it online for the first time and garnered 1,100 nominations and more than 16,000 votes, the most we have ever received.
Now back to the event. I am particularly excited about this event for multiple reasons. The first is that it’s our first event, ever, so it’s a big deal for the winners to be part of the first ever “Best of the Bakken” awards banquet. The event is Thursday at Black Magic Harley Davidson starting at 6 p.m. We could not hold this event without the support of our wonderful sponsors. Basin Safety Consulting is our presenting sponsor and Montana Dakota Utilities is a Platinum sponsor, followed by Black Magic Harley Davidson, Stylish Events, WCCU, Flow Core, Williston Economic Development, and Cugini’s Italian Bistro as gold sponsors. Kickin It Entertainment is a silver sponsor and Country Floral is a bronze sponsor.
We have Williston Economic Development Executive Director Shawn Wenko as our guest speaker. He’ll talk about all the good things happening in the Bakken region. The doors open at 6 p.m. for a meet and greet, and dinner is at 6:30 p.m. with the speaker at 7 p.m. and the awards to follow.
We still have a few tickets left for sale but they are very limited. If anyone is interested in attending, call the Williston Herald at 701-572-2165.
