Evoke 6061's motor to deliver a massive 271 Nm of torque


As reported earlier, Evoke Motorcycles is preparing to enter the Indian market. The Chinese-brand would commence Indian operations with a new entry-level bike codenamed Project M1 that would be designed for price-sensitive markets.

Now, the company has revealed the design of its upcoming premium electric motorcycle codenamed Kruzer, which will be called Evoke 6061. The electric cruiser, which is currently in the prototype phase, would not be coming to the Indian market, at least in, the foreseeable future.

Speaking about the 6061, company’s CEO, Nathan Siy said:

The modules are permanently fixed and make up a semi-structural component of the bike. Charging currently works with DC Fast Charge in China and we will be integrating with CCS in the US and Europe by the time we’ll ship.

The electric performance motorcycle is built around a ‘Twin Plate Frame’, which is carved using Precision Laser Cutting from T6061 aluminium billet pieces – thus the name. The powertrain, battery packs and tubular subsections are mounted to the Twin Plate Frame. The same twin plate design is seen on the swing arm.

The cruiser style motorcycle has vertically stacked, twin projector headlights that are placed inside a spherical housing. The 6061 also packs a massive 10-inch touchscreen display that is mounted on the fuel tank. The feature list on the instrument console is not available, but we expect to see navigation and smartphone integration on the screen.

The motorcycle also features laid-back ergonomics with forward-set footpegs and a tall-set handlebar. The saddle on the cruiser is a single-piece unit. The rear section gets a clean look with the tail lamp and blinkers integrated into the panel under the pillion seat. The round headlight, rear view mirrors and wire-spoke wheels enhance the cruiser persona of the 6061.

The Evoke 6061 would be pitched as a performance motorcycle. Its motor is said to be capable of producing a commendable 120 kW (160 hp) and a massive 272 Nm of peak torque. The company has remained tight-lipped about the top speed. The cruiser-style electric motorcycle would get the company’s Gen 2 Battery Packs, which could be chargeable from 0- 80% in just 15 minutes with the brand’s patented fast-charging system. The 6061 would pack six modules of the Gen 2 Battery Packs that would give it a combined capacity of 15.4 kWh.

The battery and powertrain would be manufactured in China, which would be cost-effective. Siy added:

With electric power train and battery manufacturing taking place solely in China (i.e. all of Zero’s and the Strike’s components are coming from China), it gives us a solid supply chain pathway for the creation of this bike. So being in China with an international design team really puts us a few steps ahead of the other guys. It also allows us to prototype quickly and cost effectively compared to doing this in the US or anywhere else.

Twin discs at the front and a single unit at the rear, backed by the safety net of dual-channel ABS, would perform anchoring tasks. The spoke wheels would be shod in dual compound tyres. The back would feature a 200/55-17 section tyre while the front would come equipped with a 140/70-17 section unit.

The electric cruiser would be rolled out in the Chinese market first before it is exported to other global markets. More details about the availability of the Evoke 6061 would be available as the motorcycle reaches closer to production. The company reportedly plans to have the first test bikes on the road by June while the launch-ready bike could be seen towards the end of the year. The company plans to introduce the motorcycle in the US and Europe and thus it would not be a big surprise to see the cruiser at the 2019 EICMA motorcycle show.

The Evoke 6061 electric cruiser would compete with the Harley-Davidson LiveWire electric motorcycle that was launched in the US market in January this year at a manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) of USD 29,799 (INR 20.75 lakh). The Evoke 6061 could arrive in the same price range. For reference, the Evoke’s Urban Series retails at USD 9,500 (INR 6.61 lakh).
