Melanie S. Mitchell, 52, of Eureka was in satisfactory condition, a St. Anthony’s Medical Center spokesman said this afternoon (Jan. 29), the day after she was transported to the south St. Louis County hospital following a motorcycle accident in Cedar Hill.
Mitchell was moderately injured after the motorcycle she was a passenger on ran into a Hummer at about 11:45 a.m. Sunday (Jan. 28) at Hwy. 30 east of Hwy. BB, the Missouri State Highway Patrol said.
Karl B. Steger, 43, of Fenton was driving a 2007 Hummer HS west on Hwy. 30 with Joseph A. Arico, 54, of Defiance riding a 2007 Harley Davidson Ultra Classic behind him with Mitchell riding as a passenger. When the vehicles approached the Hwy. 30 and Hwy. BB intersection, the traffic lights were not functioning and the intersection was controlled by stop signs, the report said.
Steger slowed the Hummer he was driving, coming to a stop in the intersection, and when Arico attempted to stop, the Harley Davidson began to skid and the right side of the motorcycle hit the rear of the SUV. Arico and Mitchell also hit the backside of the Hummer, the report said.
Both Arico and Mitchell were moderately injured and were taken by Big River Ambulance to St. Anthony’s, the report said. Arico was treated and released, a hospital spokesman said.
No injuries were reported for Steger, who was wearing a seatbelt. Arico and Mitchell were both wearing helmets, the patrol reported.
The motorcycle was moderately damaged, and the Hummer had minor damage, the report said.
