Nijer Reaves, of Piscataway, was also issued 11 traffic summonses stemming from the Oct. 6 wreck, including careless and reckless driving, leaving the scene of an accident, failure to maintain lane, and speeding, according to the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office.
John Shlyk, 64, of Piscataway, died Oct. 22 at an area hospital from complications from the injuries he suffered in the crash, the prosecutor’s office said in a statement.
Reaves was driving a Toyota Corolla south on Stelton Road shortly before 7 a.m. when she crossed into oncoming traffic, hitting Shlyk’s northbound Harley Davidson near Hamilton Boulevard and Woodrow Avenue, the office said. Shlyk was initially listed in serious condition following the crash.
The prosecutor’s office said an investigation was ongoing. Reaves was being held at the county jail ahead of a detention hearing next week.
Shlyk’s obituary described him as a veteran who worked as a head mechanic with the United States Postal Service in Edison. Shlyk built and rode Harley Davidson motorcycles in his free time.
“He was an animal lover who enjoyed gardening. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him,” the obituary stated.
