Discovery Bay man killed in motorcycle accident

A 41-year-old Discovery Bay man was killed in a motorcycle accident early Friday morning. California Highway Patrol (CHP) stated that they were advised of a motorcycle rider down in the roadway of eastbound SR-4 at Bixler Road shortly before 2 a.m. The rider was reportedly unresponsive and not breathing. Upon the arrival of emergency personnel, lifesaving efforts were attempted but were unsuccessful. The rider was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to CHP, the rider was traveling north on Bixler Road on his 2002 Harley Davidson motorcycle and approaching the intersection of SR-4. A big rig was traveling east on SR-4 approaching the same intersection. The driver of the truck, a 45-year-old female from Turlock, traveled through the intersection on a green light. The motorcycle rider, facing a solid red light, drove into the intersection and collided with the right side of the vehicle. The rider was ejected and landed on the asphalt. The driver stopped after the collision and remained on scene for the duration of the investigation. The motorcycle rider sustained fatal injuries from the crash. The two occupants of the truck were not injured.

CHP is investigating the collision. It is unknown at this time if alcohol or drugs were a factor. If anyone witnessed either vehicle prior to the collision or the collision itself, call CHP at (925) 646-4980.
