Expressing his views on the current market situation, Shabbir Vali, Dealer Principal for Harley-Davidson and Kawasaki Motorcycles, on Thursday painted a bleak economic outlook of the auto sector and said that it would continue for next one to one and half years. He said that the buyers are on back-foot and they are not purchasing luxury items. “After a lull, the markets experienced excitement in October when demand surged substantially. It was festive season that triggered the demand manifold. But now the market is once again going down,” he said.In an exclusive interview with The Hitavada, Vali further said that the slowdown in economy is cyclic.
“We may see demand picking up gradually after 12 to 18 months,” he added. Apart from this the dealer for high end motorbikes, also said that improved roads in the country will give much needed boost to auto sales. “Today we have better infrastructure and connectivity. This is certainly going encourage buyers, he said. Commenting on world renowned brands like Harley-Davidson and Kawasaki Motorcycles, Vali said the companies cater to the different class of the people.
“Those who have passion for riding and love to cover long distances on bikes are our customers. Customers falling in this category are well-informed,” he said adding that people between 35 to 50 years buy high end bikes. Highlighting the activities of Harley bikers, Vali spoke about Harley Owners Group under which the riders organise long distance tours. “People go from one end of the country to another. We also have international tours for the group members,” he said. Sharing further details about the group, he said that Harley strongly promotes the concept of safe riding. “The company offers many accessories for the bikers such as special hand gloves, jackets, helmets, shoes, etc.
Apart from this, the company conducts training programmes on safe riding at a regular intervals,” he said. Vali is also Chairman of Vidarbha Automotive Racing Association (VARA), pioneer motor sports body of Central India. From it’s inception in 1986, the VARA has been conducting thrilling and spectacular events like the moto-cross, rallies, flat track dirt races, off road and rugged races, hill climbs, tours and expeditions and unique record setting events.
