Mt. Cheaha Harley-Davidson will host the annual Rumble on the Loop this weekend, and organizers expect more vendors and bigger crowds in the motorcycle festival’s third year in Oxford.
The festival begins with a kickoff party Friday night, according to Hailye Hatton, an event planner for the store, and picks back up Saturday morning through that evening, with live music by bands throughout. The chrome-heavy party this year has a Las Vegas-style theme, she said, with showgirls and casino games played with tokens.
Around 1,500 attended the Rumble last year, Hatton said, and there were six vendors. This year, she said, the store has lined up 25, selling food, patches, jewelry and other items.
Two local hotels blocked rooms especially for the event, and are “pretty much booked,” she said.
“We’re definitely expecting a lot more than that this year,” Hatton said.
The party will be held outside the store along Davis Loop in Oxford, starting Friday at 6 p.m. with live music from J.B. Walker and the Cheap Whiskey band, Hatton said, and pool tables available for play.
On Saturday, the Rumble resumes with bike games at 11 a.m., and a motorcycle show that starts at noon. Four other musical groups — Troy Mowrey and Phillip McCain; Jobe Fortner; Geneva; and Buck Wild — are set to play throughout the evening.
Hatton said that attendees can play blackjack and poker, and there will be two slot machines — playable with tokens obtained at the event.
The Rumble will also feature a silent auction Saturday, with items taken from the dealership and from visiting vendors, Hatton said. Proceeds from that auction will be donated to Interfaith Ministries’ Meals on Wheels program, she said.
