Backyard BBQ to raise money for Pitt Co. deputy & family

WINTERVILLE, NC (WITN) – The Eastern Carolina community is coming together to rally around a Pitt County Sheriff’s Deputy and his wife, who were both seriously injured in a motorcycle accident earlier this year.

Another deputy’s wife, BonnieRae Guthrie, has organized a Backyard BBQ at Hometown Harley Davidson in Winterville to raise money for Deputy Brian Cox and his wife, Wendy.

Guthrie says the couple may be out of work for the rest of the year and have three children to care for.

“Wendy broke her femur, tibia and fibula then developed and rare bacteria skin infection that complicated her recovery even more. She died on the table and they were able to get her back. She will be out of work until the end of the year and lost her job,” she said.

The event is at Hometown Harley-Davidson at 2300 Elaines Way in Winterville from 9am-3pm on Saturday, September 23rd. The event will start with a 70-mile motorcycle ride with kickstands up at 10:30am.

Upon their return, there will be live music, food from Moore’s BBQ, cornhole and horseshoe tournaments, raffles and more.
