Authorities have identified the man who died and a passenger who was injured in a motorcycle crash three miles west of Lead last month.

42-year-old Thomas Deel, from Del City, Oklahoma, was driving a 2004 Harley Davidson FLSTCI eastbound on U.S. Highway 14 around 4:40 p.m. on June 26 when the motorcycle missed a left-hand curve, went into a ditch and tipped over, according to a news release from the South Dakota Highway Patrol.

The driver and 42-year-old passenger Trella Deel, also from Del City, were thrown from the motorcycle. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene, and the passenger was transported to the Deadwood hospital with serious non-life threatening injuries, the release states. Helmet use is under investigation for both individuals.

Names of the two victims are not being released yet, pending family notification.

South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
