Ashe County Wreck Report Sept. 22-28

ASHE COUNTY — The following accidents that occurred between Sept. 21 and Sept. 28 were reported by the North Carolina Highway Patrol and are considered public record.

Sept. 21

As Kevin Wayne Rominger, of 315 Cowboy Trail, Deep Gap, and Ronnie Neil Stafford, of 136 Waffle Lane, Newland, slowed to a stop in their respective vehicles on U.S. 221 in West Jefferson, James Terrell Austin, Jr., of 820 Randy Byland Road, Fleetwood, hit Stafford and created a chain reaction type collision. Austin was charged with failure to reduce speed.

Sept. 22

Garrett James Adams, of 85 Shelv Jean Way, Front Royal, Va., was traveling on U.S. 221 in Jefferson on a Harley-Davidson motorcycle when he lost control on gravel in the roadway. Adams then crossed the center-line and ran off the shoulder of the road. The motorcycle then overturned down an embankment and came to rest on its side. No charges were listed. The Harley-Davidson sustained $ 10,000 in damages.

As Logan Garfield Shatley, of 168 Gum Branch Road, Jefferson, slowed to make a turn off of U.S. 221 in Jefferson, he was struck from behind by Kimberly Baker Barnes, of 2025 Chestnut Hill Road, Crumpler. Barnes was cited for failure to reduce speed.

Lora Ellen Garcia, of 503 Greenbriar Drive, Apt. 6, West Jefferson, was traveling west on N.C. 88 in a 2004 Chevrolet when he traveled off the right shoulder and struck an embankment. Garcia’s 2004 Chevrolet came to rest on its side. The vehicle sustained $ 9,000 in damages. Garcia was cited for failure to maintain lane control.

Alice Marie Durham, of 6223 Pleasant Pointe Drive, Warrensville, was traveling southeast on Windy Hill Road. While completing a left-turn onto a private driveway, Durham drove into a ditch. No citations were issued.

Sept. 23

Kendall Robert Goodman, of 1316 Carson Woods Road, Laurel Springs, was traveling on U.S. 221 when he traveled left of center. To avoid hitting Goodman, Cheyenne Marlene Eicher, of 125 James Latham Drive, Crumpler, swerved to the right. Goodman then collided with Eicher. After impact, both vehicles were moved off the roadway. Goodman left the scene of the accident but was located within two hours of the collision. Goodman told the N.C. Highway Patrol that he was unaware that any collision took place. No citations were issued.

Sept. 24

Gustavo Nmn Ariaga, of 945 Bald Knob Road, Sparta, was traveling west on N.C. 88 when he ran off the right shoulder and struck an embankment. His vehicle overturned and came to rest on its side in the westbound lane of N.C. 88. Gustavo was charged with driving while intoxicated.
