Amarillo bike enthusiasts will unite at Original Harley Party

Motorcycle enthusiasts across the Texas Panhandle will have a chance to show off their bikes in downtown Amarillo this weekend.

This year’s Original Harley Party is bringing back the Fun Run, where guests can parade their own bikes into the party, which runs from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday in downtown Amarillo.

In its 23rd year, 3,000 people are anticipated to attend this year’s fundraising event supporting Family Support Services. All proceeds go to the multiservice, non-profit agency assisting more than 25,000 individuals and families in Amarillo and across the Texas Panhandle each year.

Tickets to the party are $ 80 and admit two people. Admission also includes an entry in a raffle to win a Harley-Davidson 2017 Road King Special or a cash prize of $ 15,000, food and beverage.

Guests must have a Harley Party ticket to participate in the Fun Run, which is also an additional $ 20 and includes early party admission and VIP parking.

The event will also feature a reverse drawing for the raffle, with the last ticket pulled being the winner. FSS Event Coordinator Joette Campbell said guests like to check-in during the party to see if their ticket has been pulled or not. At the end, the last 10 people stand on stage, anticipating if they’ll be the last man standing.

This year’s winner will have to decide between two great prizes.

“I think it depends on how many bikes you already have in your garage,” she said, laughing. “If you have a bike you’re trying to pay off, you might want the cash option.”

There will also be a second drawing for a $ 1,000 cash giveaway.

The party includes food from more than 30 local restaurants, including Hoffbrau Steaks, Joe Taco, The Plaza, Ye Olde Pancake Station, Longhorn Steakhouse and Trail Boss. Live music is being provided by Hangman, Loaded Six and the Buster Bledsoe Band.

Joe Taco manager Jeff Prescott said the restaurant has been involved in the party for at least six years. He said the party is going to have great food, be a good time, and be a great way for community members to support an important local organization.

“All the proceeds go to support Family Support Services and their mission,” he said. “And it’s a good cause and one of the best ones in Amarillo.”

Campbell said the event is a great deal for everyone from couples looking for a date night to families looking for a good time.

“It’s pretty fun for anybody who wants to support us or wants a new Harley,” she said.

The party is not designed with small children in mind, Campbell said, as it is a hot, street party with alcohol. But many families do attend annually.

FSS provides services for sexual assault and family violence intervention and prevention; safe houses for victims; individual, group, marital and family counseling; veteran resources, and more. Campbell said funds raised at the Harley Party help ensure they can continue to provide these types of services for the community.

“Our goal is to serve all these needs in the community,” she said. “And most of the things we do are free for the community. Most of what we do, people don’t pay for.”
