Redding police officers arrested a man Monday morning on suspicion of stealing a motorcycle after a police dog found him hiding in a trash can.
Officers received a call about a suspicious man lurking outside the Kutras Gardens Apartments at 540 South St. The caller said the man appeared to have a rifle and was on foot, later reporting hearing a motorcycle leave the apartment complex.
The owner of the motorcycle called a few minutes later to report the theft of his Harley-Davidson motorcycle.
The suspect was spotted on the motorcycle, but refused to stop for police, leading them on a short pursuit. He abandoned the Harley in the 2700 block of Wyndham Lane in south Redding and ran.
A resident reported she heard the suspect run through her backyard, and after a search of the area, police K-9 Njord found Cory Ray Arguello, 25, of Oroville, hiding in trash can, investigators said.
Arguello also was arrested on suspicion of evading officers. He didn’t have a rifle or other firearm on his person, police said.
Arguello had other outstanding arrest warrants for vehicle theft and possession of stolen property, police said.
