Celebrate our country’s independence Tuesday at the 4th of July Family Parade and Picnic hosted by the mayor’s office. The parade kicks off at 10 a.m. along Phillips Avenue followed by a free lunch at 11 a.m. for the first 5,000 attendees in Falls Park. The program will include a presentation of flags, singing of the national anthem and a welcome by the mayor. The Sioux Falls Municipal Band and Mogen’s Heroes will perform. At night, join the Jaycees at the W.H. Lyon Fairgrounds for their 50th annual Fourth of July Celebration. The night features kids activities and live music. A 20-minute-long fireworks show is scheduled to go off at 10 p.m. The event is free, and lawn chairs are welcome. Info at siouxfallsjaycees.org.
The Parks and Recreation Department is setting up a Pop-up Park at the Phillips Avenue Plaza to celebrate National Park and Recreation Month. Events begin at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday with Play a Park Game and continue through July. Info at siouxfalls.org/PopUpPark.

Exposure Gallery and Studio is bringing Art Maze II to the L’Abri building downtown, located at 401 N. Phillips Ave. More than 30 artists are transforming the office space into a temporary art gallery for two nights only. The show opens at 5 p.m. Friday.
The second annual Wiley’s Block Party is Friday night behind Wiley’s Tavern. The event features Eli Young Band and guests Walker County. Tickets are $ 20 in advance, $ 25 at the door. The show starts at 7 p.m. Info at wileystavern.com.
The VFW is hosting its hog roast, The VFW is Going Hog Wild, at 6 p.m. Friday in its parking lot. The event costs $ 10 with music beginning at 8:30 p.m. At 10 a.m. Saturday, the community is invited to a ceremony at the USS South Dakota Battleship Memorial celebrating the remaining World War II crew members.
Artist John Lopez is opening his newart gallery, Kokomo, on Friday in Lemmon. The gallery features several of his popular works, including his most famous piece, “The Last Stand Sculpture,” and brings a light to the area’s history and culture. Info at johnlopezstudio.com.
