Half marathon
The Big Country Half Marathon will begin at 7 a.m. at the Taylor County Expo Center. Race day registration is $ 30 for individuals and $ 45 for teams. To register, go to www.abilenetx.com/signup.
Homecoming and pecan festival
CLYDE — A homecoming and pecan festival will begin at 8 a.m. in downtown Clyde, with a parade at 10 a.m. Vendors will be open until 5 p.m. The Friends of the Clyde Public Library will conduct a book sale from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the library, 125 Oak St., followed from 2-4 p.m. by a presentation of a new exhibit, “Celebrating 65 Years of ‘Stars’ and the Art of Slim Willet,” which will be at the library through October.
Benefit shoot
A sporting clay shoot benefiting Cottonwood Volunteer Fire Control and the Cottonwood Historical Association will begin at 9 a.m. at Abilene Clay Sports, 1102 E. Spur 707. The format is a 100 target walking sporting clay shoot. Registration is $ 125, and lunch will be provided. Walk-ups will be accepted. Business Mercado
The Abilene Chamber of Commerce will conduct its annual Business Mercado from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Abilene Convention Center, 1100 N. Sixth St. Approximately 100 exhibitors focusing on the Hispanic market will be present. Admission is free.
Octoberfest
RISING STAR — The 22nd annual Rising Star Octoberfest will begin at 10 a.m. at Rising Star City Park. Vendors, a carnival and a barbecue cook-off will be available. Live music will begin at 2 p.m., with a dance featuring the Chris McCandless Band from 7:30-10:30 p.m.
Movies at the library
A free showing of “Hocus Pocus,” rated PG, will begin at 10:45 a.m. at the South Branch of the Abilene Public Library, at the Mall of Abilene. A showing of “Transformers: The Last Knight,” rated PG-13, will follow at 2 p.m.
Chautauqua
BUFFALO GAP — The Chautauqua Learning Series will continue with a presentation by Lydia M. Long, “Hang ’em High: Tales of Frontier Justice,” at 11 a.m. at the Taylor County History Center, 133 N. William St. in Buffalo Gap. Admission is free.
Funk Off Breast Cancer
The Funk Off Breast Cancer fundraiser will be 11 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Kent’s Harley-Davidson, 3016 S. Clack St. Games, live music, a fashion show, a live auction and more will be available. All proceeds will go to Cancer Services Network.
‘Dial M for Murder’
