The Elyria Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a single-vehicle fatal motorcycle accident that happened Sunday in Penfield Township.

According to the post, William and Eleanor Hill, both 74, of Spencer, were traveling southbound on State Route 301 on a 2008 Harley-Davidson motorcycle.

Mr. Hill was piloting the motorcycle when the rear tire appeared to malfunction, causing the bike to travel off the right side of the road. The motorcycle struck a ditch and ejected both of the Hills.

Mr. Hill was transported to Cleveland Metro Health Hospital, where he was treated for serious injuries.

Mrs. Hill was transported to University Hospital of Elyria, then flown to University Hospital of Cleveland with life-threatening injuries.

While at the hospital, Mrs. Hill died from her injuries.

The Hills both were wearing helmets at the time of the crash and neither drug nor alcohol use is suspected to be a factor in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.
