A 72-year-old Woodstock man died Sunday after being ejected from his motorcycle in unincorporated Woodstock, police said.
The man was driving a 2006 Harley-Davidson Softail Deluxe about 11 a.m. Sunday eastbound on Kishwaukee Valley Road, west of Vermont Road, according to a news release from the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office.
A preliminary investigation showed the man drove off the right side of the curved road, went through a ditch and traveled over Vermont Road before his motorcycle came to a rest on the east side of Vermont Road.
The driver was ejected from the motorcycle and sustained severe injuries, police said. Sheriff’s office deputies, Marengo Rescue personnel and an off-duty paramedic provided medical care until the man was taken by Marengo Rescue to Centegra Hospital – Woodstock.
The man was pronounced dead at the hospital. He was not wearing a helmet, and no mechanical issues with the motorcycle were found, police said.
“The investigation revealed that the driver’s motorcycle operational abilities were believed to have contributed to the crash,” according to the release.
Sheriff’s officials could not immediately be reached for more information.
The investigation is ongoing by the sheriff’s office Major Crash Investigation Unit and the McHenry County Coroner’s Office.
