Hospice of Southern Illinois is hosting back-to-back fundraisers for the next two weekends, including a Jeep Jam Poker Run in Harrisburg and “Howl at the Moon” Dueling Pianos in Marion, along with a car raffle featuring a 2016 BMW 328i.
The Fall Jeep Jam Poker Run, sponsored by Jim Hayes Inc., kicks off at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 1, at Bonan Business Center, 540 N. Commercial St., in Harrisburg.
Jeeps go out at 10:30 a.m. Cost is $ 20 per Jeep, which includes registration and one poker hand, along with a catered dinner after the event. Cost is $ 5 per additional hand. A $ 300 cash prize will be awared for best hand.
This is the second poker run HSI has sponsored this year in Harrsiburg.
“The one in June was such a success. Over 350 people were there that day. We’re going with a more scenic route on the river this time,” said Jennifer Vinyard, event coordinator for HSI.
She said the June event raised $ 7,800.
The poker run includes stops in Saline, Hardin, Pope and Massac counties with lunch at Cave-In-Rock State Park Restaurant & Lodge. An all-you-can-eat catfish buffet will be available for $ 9.25 per person.
“We’re hoping the leaves will be changing so it will be beautiful,” Vinyard said.
After the poker run, there will be a dinner at 5:30 p.m. at Bonan Business Center, followed by a live auction. The dinner will be provided by Morello’s Restaurant & Catering.
Coming up the following weekend is the second annual “Howl at the Moon” Dueling Pianos. The event, featuring appetizers and raffles, will be at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 7, at Black Diamond Harley-Davidson Events Center, 2400 Wiliamson County Parkway, in Marion.
Individual tickets are available for $ 35 each.
“People can request songs, and the tips the musicians make are donated to Hospice,” Vinyard said.
She added that last year’s event, which also was at Black Diamond, raised over $ 11,000 for Hospice.
Jeremy Pinkston, director of business development at Black Diamond, described the 2015 fundraiser as an “overwhelming success” and anticipates the same this year.
“We’re a champion for all community causes in Southern Illinois,” Pinkston added. “It has been our philosophy since day No. 1.”
At 10 p.m., after the dueling pianos performance, will be the car raffle. Tickets are $ 50 each.
